From its elevated position on the high side of the road, this remarkable Montrose home looks across Christmas Hills and the Yarra Ranges, with treetop views by day and sunsets putting on a nightly encore. Set across approximately 2/3 acre, it feels wonderfully removed from the world, yet the #688 bus stops almost at the doorstep and Montrose Village is only moments away.

Originally built as a builder’s own home, the residence carries that sense of generous scale and thoughtful flexibility. Spread across two substantial levels, it is designed for families who entertain, evolve and occasionally need everyone to have their own corner. Multi-generational living, guest accommodation or Airbnb potential are all comfortably within reach.

Polished floors gleam through the expansive living and dining zone, where a spectacular open fireplace with stone surround brings warmth and theatre. A built-in bar keeps entertaining close at hand, while a wall of glass and French doors open to a lavish terrace overlooking the gardens and the ranges.

The skylit kitchen sits beside a second meals area, also bathed in light and warmed by a Coonara wood fire. Stone benchtops, a bay window, breakfast bar, appliance hutch, dishwasher, 900mm gas cooktop and electric oven make it equally capable of handling the weeknight rush or a houseful at Christmas. A covered all-season deck set against a ranges backdrop extends the entertaining space outdoors.

Four bedrooms include a main featuring a walk-in robe and ensuite plus access to the front balcony. Three further bedrooms share a beautifully renovated family bathroom with a deep soaking bath. Both bathrooms feature chic floating vanities, LED mirrors and rain showers with recessed niches.

Behind the bar, a hidden staircase reveals an entire lower-level retreat with its own entrance, living zone, projector and screen, plus a bathroom. It is a brilliant surprise for adult children, extended family, guests or movie nights that deserve full cinematic commitment.

Then there is the backyard. Beyond the expansive lawn, established gardens and fruit trees lies a full-sized surprise: a tennis court ready for matches, basketball, bikes, parties or a marquee. Add birdsong, camellias, rhododendrons and endless sky, and this becomes the house every family member, and probably every neighbourhood child, wants to gather at.
