A Landmark Victorian Homestead on a Productive Macedon Ranges Holding
Rich in history and distinguished by its grand Victorian homestead, Mount View is an exceptional country estate encompassing approximately 300 acres across three titles in the heart of the Macedon Ranges. Combining period architecture, a documented connection to the district's agricultural past and an established working farm, this is a substantial rural holding of both character and productivity.

At the heart of the estate stands an impressive five bedroom Victorian homestead, its red-brick façade, deep verandah, decorative timberwork and striking gabled roofline reflecting the craftsmanship of a bygone era. Tall, narrow windows and considered architectural detailing lend the residence a commanding presence, its traditional character sitting naturally within the expansive rural landscape.

Inside, the homestead retains the charm of a grand country residence, with fireplaces, a generously proportioned mudroom and a functional kitchen fitted with electric appliances. A particularly charming period feature is the traditional servants' bell system, with twist-operated bells in each bedroom connected to the living area, each producing a distinctive chime. A split-system air conditioner in the main living area provides additional comfort throughout the seasons.

Mount View holds a special place in the agricultural history of Rochford, with the Cook family associated with the property from the 1890s. In 1908, James H. Cook achieved recognition through competitions conducted by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, winning first prize for English barley and subsequent championship recognition for his Brewer's Favourite barley. The estate also carries a poignant connection to Australia's wartime history through Alfred Richard Cook, born at Rochford in 1894, who served with the 8th Australian Light Horse Regiment during the First World War and died of wounds in Palestine in 1917, aged just 23.

Farm infrastructure is both extensive and distinctive. A particularly beautiful historic brick barn stands as a striking feature of the estate and a reminder of its rich agricultural past. Complementing the barn is a machinery shed, a substantial hay shed and a two-stand shearing shed with capacity for approximately 180 large crossbred ewes. Updated cattle and sheep yards, with semi-trailer access, further support the property's established farming operation.

Mount View is an established mixed farming operation, with 21 paddocks serviced by a trough system. Water infrastructure includes a spring fed dam, a bore and two header tanks filled from the dam via a windmill or from the bore near the main machinery shed. Two rainwater tanks are located near the homestead, with additional water tanks beside the machinery shed, providing an established network of water sources and storage across the holding.

Currently running sheep for fat lamb production and cattle, the farm also produces hay and silage annually, with approximately 500 bales harvested in 2025. A rotational pasture improvement program incorporating rye and clover continues to support pasture quality and the productive potential of the paddocks.

Bringing together a grand Victorian homestead, a remarkable historic barn and an established agricultural enterprise across three titles, Mount View offers a rare combination of heritage, scale and rural productivity. Whether sought as a substantial country estate, a working farm or a holding to be enjoyed and maintained for generations, it presents an opportunity to acquire a distinctive part of the Macedon Ranges' rural landscape.

A distinguished country estate, shaped by history and sustained by the land.
