Abode

A remarkable fusion of heritage grandeur and contemporary sophistication, this distinguished c1876 Victorian residence has been transformed into an extraordinary generational family home by Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medal recipient Maggie Edmond AM. Built by prominent nineteenth-century builder Henry Everist as his own residence, the home has been reimagined with contemporary design, exceptional materials and an exacting level of craftsmanship, while retaining the scale and character of the original residence.

A renewed tuck-pointed façade and deep tessellated verandah establish the home’s distinguished street presence, leading into a grand entry hall framed by soaring 3.8m ceilings and three beautifully appointed reception rooms. Restored marble fireplaces with new black-slate hearths, recreated plasterwork and hand-cut solid timber skirtings preserve the authenticity of the original interiors, complemented by Venetian plaster finishes and solid oak floors, while a considered transition towards the rear introduces a contemporary sequence of spaces defined by light, openness and connection to the landscape.

Full-height glazing draws the gardens into expansive living and dining domains, creating a natural relationship between interior and exterior. A superb marble kitchen appointed with Gaggenau and Wolf appliances is complemented by a discreet butler’s pantry with Vintec wine storage, delivering an exceptional environment for both everyday living and grand-scale entertaining.

Beyond, the gardens conceived by acclaimed landscape designer Myles Baldwin create a private sanctuary of remarkable beauty. A limestone terrace, integrated barbecue, heated pool and spa sit among lush greenery, offering a secluded outdoor setting designed for entertaining, relaxation and family enjoyment, while a secondary garden provides a tranquil retreat.

The sky-lit upper level accommodates five bedrooms, including an exceptional main suite featuring a lavish marble ensuite, wrap-around balcony access and a gallery of custom-fitted robes. Additional bedrooms are served by beautifully finished bathrooms, including a guest suite with its own ensuite, ensuring comfort and privacy for family and guests alike.
Every element of the home has been meticulously considered, with integrated security, video intercom, back-to-base monitoring, motorised gates, acoustic double glazing, whole-house water filtration, hydronic underfloor heating, zoned air-conditioning with HEPA filtration and designer lighting by Articolo, Volker Haug and Snelling Studio. Two powder rooms, extensive storage, secure parking for three vehicles and automated garden irrigation complete a residence of rare distinction.
