A captivating blend of Victorian railway history and sophisticated contemporary country living, Station House is an extraordinary residence where heritage, architectural character and generous proportions come together in a beautiful rural setting. Set across 5.3 hectares (13.2 acres) on two separate titles, this remarkable property offers a distinctive country lifestyle just five minutes from the vibrant township of Daylesford.
Originally established in 1857 as the Sailors Falls railway station on the historic Ballarat–Daylesford line, the property has a fascinating past, having once welcomed travellers making their way to Daylesford's celebrated mineral springs. Following the closure of the railway in 1953, the original timber station remained in place prior to being thoughtfully transformed into the magnificent country residence it is today.
The striking black and white weatherboard exterior pays homage to its railway origins, while inside, an inspired contemporary transformation has created a home of exceptional warmth, character and scale. Beautifully preserved period details sit comfortably alongside refined modern finishes, with polished timber floors, white timber-lined walls and ceilings, and an abundance of natural light creating an atmosphere of understated country elegance.
Designed with an emphasis on generous family living and effortless entertaining, the home reveals an impressive collection of expansive living spaces, each with its own character and purpose. At its centre, an enormous open-plan living and dining domain provides a spectacular setting for gatherings of family and friends, with French doors opening onto a wide veranda overlooking manicured lawns and the surrounding countryside. The seamless connection between indoors and out creates a wonderful sense of space, making this a home equally suited to intimate family occasions and entertaining on a grand scale.
The beautifully appointed country kitchen is both elegant and practical, featuring stone benchtops, a premium 900mm Ascot oven and generous preparation and storage space. Perfectly positioned to serve the adjoining entertaining areas, it is a kitchen designed for those who appreciate good food, good company and the pleasure of country hospitality.
A second substantial living room, complete with the warmth and ambience of an open fireplace, provides a more formal setting, while an adjoining games room offers further flexibility for entertaining, recreation or simply giving everyone their own space. The sheer generosity of the floorplan is one of the home's defining qualities, offering a level of comfort and versatility rarely found in a residence of such historic character.
Accommodation is equally considered, with four generously proportioned bedrooms providing peaceful retreats. The luxurious main suite features a walk-in robe and beautifully appointed ensuite with a freestanding bath, while the remaining bedrooms include built-in robes and are serviced by a stylish central bathroom. A separate powder room and well-appointed laundry add everyday practicality, while split-system air conditioning throughout ensure year-round comfort.
Beyond the residence, the property unfolds into a beautiful rural landscape, where established lawns, open countryside and a picturesque dam create an idyllic setting for relaxed country living. Wide verandas and multiple outdoor entertaining areas invite long lunches, summer evenings and quiet moments taking in the surrounding natural beauty.
A substantial 16m x 7m shed, complete with power and a concrete floor, provides excellent facilities for storage, a workshop or a variety of lifestyle pursuits. The property's two separate titles add another appealing dimension, offering flexibility and future possibilities, subject to the relevant approvals.
Despite its peaceful rural setting, Station House enjoys outstanding convenience, just five minutes from Daylesford's renowned restaurants, cafés, galleries and mineral springs. Ballan, with its direct rail connection to Melbourne, is approximately 20 minutes away, while Melbourne itself is around 75 minutes by car.
Rich in history yet entirely suited to contemporary living, Station House is a property of remarkable individuality. Beautifully restored, generously proportioned and surrounded by the tranquillity of the countryside, it offers the opportunity to become part of an enduring local story while enjoying all the pleasures of an exceptional modern country home.
