A rare opportunity to secure a distinctive Mount Macedon property where historic provenance, thoughtful design and contemporary infrastructure come together in one of the region’s most character-rich village settings.

Dating to circa 1864 and associated with Mount Macedon’s first hotel, this remarkable holding carries a genuine sense of place. The original hotel was lost in the 1983 fires, with the present residence later built and thoughtfully transformed to deliver the comfort, quality and flexibility sought in a modern lifestyle property.

The main home centres on a light-filled, open-plan kitchen and living area, where a contemporary kitchen showcases premium German appliances, custom Blum cabinetry in timeless white shaker profiles, and an integrated drinking-water system delivering chilled, ambient, sparkling and double-filtered water. The NEFF suite includes an induction cooktop, low-noise rangehood, semi-steam pyrolytic oven and full-steam combination oven, while a flagship Siemens dishwasher completes this exceptional culinary space.

A generous downstairs bedroom features Italian-made wardrobes and premium German-made Stiebel Eltron wall heating, with the main bathroom rebuilt to an equally high standard. Floor-to-ceiling Italian porcelain terrazzo tiles, under-tile heating, LED-framed mirrors, mirror demisters and a Panasonic exhaust system with heated fan combine to create a beautifully resolved, everyday-luxury bathroom.
Upstairs, a substantial king-size bedroom retreat offers outstanding flexibility for a study or work-from-home zone, sitting or reading area, additional storage, or future reconfiguration to suit changing needs.

Steps from the main residence, the independent studio is one of the property’s defining features. Constructed with robust metal framing on a concrete slab, striking Blackbutt veneer plywood linings, R3.8 wool insulation, acoustic insulation and oversized double-glazed windows and doors, it is designed as a genuinely comfortable, self-contained space. Ideal as a third bedroom, private guest accommodation, executive home office, consulting or creative studio, or teenager or adult family retreat, it includes a luxurious ensuite with a deep Japanese soaking bath, terrazzo tiling and under-tile floor heating.

Significant investment has also been made in the less visible but essential elements of the home. A premium 5kW LG solar system and 10kW LG battery provide automatic blackout backup to key lighting and refrigeration, while an efficient iStore 270L heat-pump hot-water system services the property. Three-stage whole-house filtration supplies filtered town water throughout, complemented by a dedicated 3,000-litre garden tank and internal electric pump.

Comfort, security and practicality are equally considered, with reverse-cycle air conditioning to the main living area, Wi-Fi-linked Nest Protect smoke alarms, remote-controlled alarm capability, cassette insect screens to all external doors, extensive exterior flood lighting and a double metal garden storage shed on a concrete slab.

Outside, the garden has been designed to complement Mount Macedon’s natural character while remaining manageable. A paved basalt entertaining area is sheltered by a premium Helioscreen 6m x 3m electronic retractable awning with remote operation and automatic wind sensor, while Corten steel edging, granite pathways, layered boundary planting and designed 12V landscape lighting create a polished yet relaxed outdoor setting.

Notable specimen trees include an approximately 160-year-old historic cedar, a substantial Monterey spruce and a mature Japanese maple, alongside productive plantings of Jonathan, Granny Smith and Pink Lady apples, a Eureka lemon, camellias and established ornamental trees, attracting a verity of native birds.
'Saint Francis' is a rare village property with a genuine story, offering historic character, quality finishes, independent accommodation and extensive modern infrastructure, all within the highly sought-after Mount Macedon community.
