A rare and remarkable opportunity, John Knox House is a piece of bayside history unlikely to be offered again. Set across an exceptional 1,647 square metres in one of Brighton's most prestigious pockets, this imposing double-storey Gothic Victorian, dating to the 1880s, has been masterfully reimagined as a luxury family residence where heritage character and contemporary design unite.
A striking cantilever roof, rich concrete walls and vast expanses of glass announce the modern addition, juxtaposed against the original facade. The contemporary wing is anchored by a spectacular kitchen, where thick slab benchtops, a large island, all Miele appliances and a walk-in pantry meet a family dining zone warmed by a fireplace. The adjoining living room overlooks the terrace and pool, capturing the western sun.
Outside, a paved dining area is fitted with a built-in fridge, a pizza oven, integrated seating, an outdoor television and a retractable awning, overlooking a sparkling pool. An outdoor fireplace extends the season, creating a superb setting for pool parties by day and intimate soirees by night.
Head back inside, and the heritage part of the home reveals soaring ornate ceilings, stained-glass windows and period detail, with a formal living and dining room appointed with lavish drapes, statement lighting and an open fireplace. The living room doubles as a home theatre.
The ground-floor main suite is a glamorous retreat, with a walk-in robe and a luxurious ensuite featuring twin basins and marble benchtops.
Upstairs, four oversized bedrooms enjoy beautiful natural light and custom wardrobing, served by a bathroom and a powder room, with mosaic-tiled detailing throughout.
The grounds are simply vast. Established trees and pathways frame newly landscaped gardens, upgraded for modern family life with a full-size single tennis court that transforms into a sports court, a basketball court and a children's playground.
Additional appointments include hydronic heating, a surround-sound system indoors and out, CCTV, intercom and a C-Bus system.
Moments from the beach, Bay Street and Martin Street shops, this is a singular union of history, scale and modern family luxury that will have many admirers.
